My favorite versatile GF breads that always deliver by Three Bakers.
There are A LOT of gluten-free breads out there. I’ve tried many and kept my expectations realistic, never expecting that melt in your mouth sensation like the local Italian bakery bread from my gluten days.
GF bread should have a pleasant taste, nice texture, and perform well in a sandwich situation. Anything less is unacceptable.
It needs to be versatile, function as a stuffing base, and be able to stand alone. The slices must accommodate cream cheese, cold cuts, peanut butter and jelly, tuna fish, be an outstanding grilled cheese, and more.
Most of the gluten-free bread products I tried fell short. I wasn’t pleased by the texture or performance until I found Three Bakers.
Here’s a review of my three favorite GF breads and some other honorable product mentions from this family owned business founded in 2008.
The three breads (rye, 7 grain, and white) that I will note are non-GMO; and gluten (certified), soy, and dairy free.
A Bit About Three Bakers
Before I go on, here’s a bit about Three Bakers.
This company has a good sized product line including herb seasoned boxed stuffing, frozen pizza (classic cheese, sweet Italian sausage, and mild pepperoni), plain pizza crust, and a variety of breads (Brioche, 7 Ancient Grains, Greatseed, Cinnamon Raisin, Max Omega (5 seed), and white.
I’ve tried the GF herb stuffing; classic pizza; and 7 Ancient Grains, Rye Style, and white breads.
The Three Bakers brand classic pizza has a nice crust and flavor. When pressed for time, I use the herb seasoned boxed stuffing as a base then add a few personal touches.
Even those who eat gluten like the breads, stuffing, and pizza.
I haven’t tried the other products but given this company’s track record, they are probably well made and satisfying.

Three Bakers gluten-free breads are high quality, hearty, and versatile.
Here’s a quick overall review before exploring each one separately.
All three breads are found in the freezer section, perform well, have pleasant tastes and textures, an acceptable amount of fiber and protein, and don’t get soggy.
They are versatile, and the bread slices provide a nice base for homemade stuffing.
According to the company site they can be stored on the counter (humidity dependent) for 4–5 days. Storing the bread in the refrigerator may add a few more days. I keep mine in the freezer pulling slices only as needed.
Separating the frozen slices when you get home before placing them in the freezer makes it easier to grab one quickly when needed.
I prefer to lightly toast even the bread slices used for sandwiches. It seems to bring out the flavor and texture.
This is important to keep in mind. For the gluten-free (GF) for whatever reason, remember to use a designated GF toaster to avoid cross contamination from renegade wheat crumbs.
The only con is that the loaves and slices are smaller than other popular brands.
Now, we’ll explore the rye, 7 grain, and white breads.
Three Bakers Rye Style Bread Product Details and Review
For those who like a nice rye flavor, this bread has it. I love the taste of rye bread and was happy to stumble upon this gem.
Although I haven’t been able to find this bread locally for several years, I saw it on the company and other on-line retail sites for sale, so it’s still in production.
Since rye is one of the 3 grains that should be avoided (barley, rye, wheat) on a GF diet, this bread doesn’t actually contain rye. Caraway seeds are used instead to deliver a rich rye-like flavor. It works.
Main ingredients include whole grain rice flour, tapioca starch, corn starch, potato flour, eggs, corn dextrin, and rice bran.
This bread is certified GF, non-GMO, soy and dairy free with 140 calories (fat 20), 5 grams of fiber, and 3 grams of protein per 2 slice serving.
For cream cheese on toast with an underlying rye flavor and sandwiches, this is a nice bread. It’s found in the freezer section, and the portion is filling despite the size of the slices.
Three Bakers 7 Ancient Grains Bread Product Details and Review
The 7 Ancient Grains contains these main ingredients: amaranth, flax, hemp, millet, sorghum, teff, and quinoa.
Each serving (2 slices) delivers 190 calories (fat 25), 7 grams of fiber, and 3 grams of protein. It’s found in the freezer section, and the slices are on the smaller side.
If you prefer a larger bread slice, the white and golden flax are available in a larger sliced version, but I haven’t seen them in my local retail stores.
I found this bread a bit heavier and more filling than the rye and white versions. Of the three, it contains the most fiber per serving.
Three Bakers White Bread Product Details and Review
If you’re a fan of white bread (not pictured), this is a good GF option.
Main ingredients include whole grain brown rice flour, tapioca starch, corn starch, eggs, corn dextrin, potato flour, and rice bran.
It has 2 grams of protein, 5 grams of fiber (20%), and total fat 1.5 grams or 2%, per 2 slice serving. There are 140 calories per serving.
Like most white breads, this has less protein and fiber than the higher grained versions. It makes a nice PB&J without sogging. The bread is versatile and has a nice texture.
Where to purchase and cost.
Where can Three Bakers be purchased? Many health and natural food stores carry this brand, but the breads often cost less if purchased at the local grocery store. They’re in the frozen foods section.
They can also be purchased on-line. Prices can vary widely from $4.99 to $7.99+ per loaf, so it’s best to shop around.
I can’t find the rye in my local stores at this time, but you may be able to.
Here’s a helpful link to the company website to find your local retailers.
