The Shanti Mantra-Om Sahana Vavatu for Well-Being

What is the Shanti Mantra-Om Sahana Vavatu and how does it promote harmony?

The purpose of this mantra is to promote the peaceful and harmonious exchange of information without resistance, conflict or disagreement.

It calms obstacles to learning and receiving and opens the mind and body.

Although there are many versions of the Shanti Mantra-Om Sahana Vavatu recorded by different artists, I prefer this one by Deva Premal.

It’s very relaxing, easy to understand and follow, and her voice has a beautiful inflection and resonance.

How to sing the Shanti Mantra-Om Sahana Vavatu.

Singing or listening to this mantra provides a meditative distraction that clears the mind and generates a good energy.

To experience the full effect, inhale through the abdomen allowing it to expand then move the breath upward to fill the chest. This extends the breath, opens the chest, and increases resonance.

If you tend to sing nasally, using the “belly” breathing helps bring the voice downward. Adding vibrato (a wavy sound) creates an extra elegance.

Take your time, relax, practice, and please don’t judge yourself. Mastering the words and rhythm doesn’t take long.
